MSI MPG Z490 Carbon Gaming WiFi Review
Up Close – Packaging and ContentsÂ
It took us a moment to work out what the picture was on the box. It looks like a glimpse of an unreleased Burnout game, and how we wish it was. It’s certainly a very attention grabbing box and we love the typeface choice. It’s a theme that is matched by the design of the motherboard itself, so MSI get an extra point for harmony.
After the cave of wonders that was the Godlike the Carbon can seem a little thin on the accessories front, but given how most of us leave all this stuff in the box anyway we’d always rather save money and just get what we need and nothing else.
In a point that will be put into stark contrast against our diatribe on the next paragraph, it’s amusing to us how the main motherboard manufacturers have agreed a design for their antenna and are all sticking to it. Nice.
There are two types of RGB extension cable packaged with the Gaming Carbon WiFi. One for regular ‘Rainbow’ LEDs and one for the Corsair wiring style. We can’t wait until the manufacturers get together and agree a wiring standard. It’s only four pins, how many combinations can there be?! Yes we know it’s 24. Ssh.
The SATA cables might not win any design awards, but given how much of them is tucked away behind our motherboard trays we don’t care at all as long as they work.
