Think carbon, think McLaren P1. It’s an odd pairing on a motherboard box though. Still, any chance to drool over the Woking Hypercar has to be taken. VR Ready is a logo that is appearing on almost everything lately. It reminds us of the old HD Ready TVs you could get from Woolworths and the like. Any technology that causes 25% of people to feel nauseas surely wont last the test of time? It’s why 4K took over from 3D. But this is a rant for another day, let’s get back to the Carbon…

Inside the box we find a small selection of accessories. With the majority of the Z270 motherboards having identical featuresets it is in the details that they are able to be separated, so we’d have liked to have seen a little extra in the Carbon box. The Z270 Carbon itself continues the modern theme of a monochrome motherboard that utilises the lighting for customisation. With so many different lighting areas it perhaps goes further than any other motherboard that springs to mind when it comes to letting you express your individuality, as we’ll show on a following page.

All of the DIMM slots and PCI Express slots are braced by the MSI Steel Armor, and the supremely eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that the DIMM slots have additional grounding points on the underside to help smooth out the clock cycles and protect your expensive DDR4.
