Unquestionably the element that gets the most attention in the MSI documentation is the overclocking capabilities and the various elements of the design that help the extreme overclockers attain the world records that they crave. The attention grabbing ones are definitely the two different elements for the CPU socket itself. There is a backplate guaranteed to be flat and small, so that installing your pot is simplicity. The second one is a guard for the CPU so that after you’ve delidded it you aren’t exerting too much pressure upon the actual die. It’s such a stroke of genius we’re amazed nobody has thought of it before, and quite disappointed in ourselves that we didn’t either.
Just being able to apply pressure to the CPU or screw in your pot without difficulty is meaningless if the board itself hasn’t got a wealth of features designed to extract the last ounce of performance, whether it’s realtime adjustments once in the OS or the kind of power phases that could double up as a particle accelerator.
