ProArt PA279CV Review

Conclusion

Squeezing a 4K panel into a 27″ frame might seem like overkill. When the target audience of your product are creators, video editors, graphic designers and the like then having the tiny pixel pitch you get with the ProArt PA279CV is a boon. The image fidelity is exceptional. This is especially so because of the utilisation of an IPS panel. Not only do you get good colour reproduction, vital in those mission critical tasks, but wide viewing angles make it easy for passers by to enjoy your work too.

Of course, if you’re anything like us, it just means the boss can wander behind you and critique it. We can see you all out there nodding in recognition.

With the ASUS ProArt PA279CV you get accurate colours across a number of formats. If you’re in the graphics world you’ll know that there isn’t just one set of colours, but sRGB, DCI-P3 and the like. This panel supports them all. There are also build in presets for scenery, easy reading, darkrooms and more. All of them are useful. If you’ve had bad experiences with “movie” or “gaming” modes in other monitors, the presets here are fantastically usable. If you want to fine tune things to your specific working environment then the RGBCMY colour adjustment will ensure that you get as accurately reproduced colours as anyone could wish for. Should you work in the world of video, or deep landscapes, then you’ll appreciate the HDR10 support built into the ProArt. There are many types of HDR available on the market, but the top end ones are really – this side of OLEDs – the only ones that really make a difference.

Although aimed squarely at creative types, the PA279CV is a 4K60 panel with 5ms response times, so you could use it for gaming in your downtime if you wish. We wouldn’t recommend it purely as a gaming monitor, but if you are above the 70/30 time split between creation and gaming then it’s nice to know it has the chops to handle some entertainment. A change is as good as a rest and all that. There are no ghosting issues, and the tiny pixel pitch gives you crisp images.

With multiple connection options, a robust stand with plenty of adjustment, and a panel that can handle almost anything you could demand of it, the ASUS ProArt PA279CV is a great display for the creative types amongst you and wins our OC3D Performance Award.
