ASUS RTX 2070 ROG Strix OC Review

The Strix packaging has always grabbed your attention with its logo of many colours and the size of the RTX 2070 box lets ASUS put it front and centre. Combining that with the lurid green of the nVidia company colours and you end up with a box it would be impossible to walk past.
The DirectCU cooler has been a monster success story and it is no surprise that the newest ASUS GPU still sports it. The combination of RGB lighting, triple fans and an attractive black shroud with its modern angles leads to a aesthetically pleasing card. The logo on the backplate glows with any colour of your choosing, letting the world know at a glance that you have a ROG card in your system.
It isn’t just the fan side of the cooler that impresses. Almost more important is the heatsink that lays beneath and with the RTX 2070 it is a very thick, high fin density offering with some fat, direct contact heatpipes helping keep the Turing GPU cool.
One area that ASUS have innovated in recent times is including the GPU harmoniously into your system, and at this end of the card you can see the connectors for two case fans which allow the card to supply itself with more air if necessary.
Whilst we still go giddy for RGB lighting as it allows us to express our creativity whilst also showing the world our favourite colour, we know that a lot of people prefer a stealthier looking system. With the Strix you have a button that turns everything off with a quick press. Whether it’s quicker to take the side of your case off and press a button or just load the AURA Sync app and disable the lighting only you can decide.
The business ends of the RTX 2070 Strix OC are a 6+8 pin PCIe power input and two HDMI, two DisplayPort and a USB Type-C.
