Features

To some degree we’re slightly disappointed to discover that the Ares III is a pair of R9 290X ‘Hawaii XT’ GPUs with an EK waterblock. It’s hardly the custom PCB affairs we’ve seen before. Still the R9 295X2, which this is, is absolutely foaming at the mouth with performance, and the combination of watercooling and a factory overclock will only push this further into the stratosphere.

EK are renowned for their full cover waterblocks and the 295X2 models have been around for a few months now. It’s great to see them used by ASUS for the Ares III as you can be certain that the quality will be of the very highest, ensuring the best temperatures and smartest looks. We love the black top with the Ares logo. It’s a good looking card, and any opportunity to stop it squealing when overclocked has to be a good thing.

Strictly speaking neither of the software features are specific to the Ares III, as it’s the regular ASUS GPU Tweak, which is excellent, and a desktop version of Twitch. Or Hitbox. Or.
