EVGA RTX 2070 Black Review

Up Close

The vertical package style we saw from the FTW3 Ultra actually works a little better here on the Black as there is nothing on the box beyond the EVGA logo and model name. It’s certainly a nice change from the regular box designs.

That echo of the flagship FTW3 Ultra continues when the card is removed. The EVGA logo embossed fans and transparent shroud work together very well to give you a card that looks significantly more premium than its price tag. Sadly that illusion is somewhat spoilt by the short backplate which exposes all the soldering. Surely a backplate isn’t that expensive when you’re making them by the thousand? Especially as this is the end of the card you’ll see more than the front. It makes the Black perfect for a vertical mount.

The full length heatsink has plenty of fins whilst only being two slots thick. That bold branding on the side is either a positive if you’ve upgraded from something very old, or a hindrance if you’re attempting to pass that gorgeous shroud as a more expensive option. Once again the vertical mounting option seems ideal.

To be honest we’re including this first picture just because we love the EVGA embossed E on the fan blades. It really makes it stand out from the crowd whilst – as we’ve seen on the FTW3 Ultra and will see *spoilers* a bit later on – not impacting the noise or cooling performance.

The business end of the RTX 2070 Black supports all the output types, HDMI, DisplayPort and DVI. There is also the USB Type-C should you have a VR headset either on hand or on your christmas list.
