Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Review
CPU Performance and Memory Usage
Â
When playing Forza Horizon 3 on PC we found that the game rarely used more than 7GB of system memory and was often performance limited by the CPU rather than the CPU in high-end systems.Â
Using our i7 6700K we tested the game with our overclock of 4.7GHz, at stock and with a variety of configurations where we turned off CPU cores or CPU threads in order to see how game performance was affected.Â
As we lowered the CPU to stock clock speeds and then turned off hyper-threading we can see that the games average framerates remain almost unchanged, though the game’s minimum framerate does change drastically. Changing the i7 6700K down to a dual core 4-threaded model we find both a dramatic decrease in both average and minimum framerates.Â
Those with lower end CPUs will need to either turn down geometry detail settings and car detail settings down a lot or limit this game to 30FPS in order to achieve a stable framerate, as this game can be CPU bound on even today’s flagship Z170 i7 CPU.Â
