OverKILL3D – MSI GTX 980 Gaming Quad SLI and SLI Bridge

Introduction

Is this an OverKill3D review for an SLI Bridge? Yes. Yes it is.

The next question is probably, “Why?”. The answer to that is simple. OverKill3D isn’t about sanity. It isn’t about balancing performance and affordability. It’s about money no object, lottery win, hardware. Testing the limits of possibility.

If you’re a fan of show systems then you’ll know that the SLI Bridge has always been a thorn in the side of a harmonious system. It’s so damn dull and boring in a world otherwise inhabited by amazing detailing. If you’re lucky enough to have a Quad-SLI system then this is exactly the product you didn’t realise you wanted until now. Bringing gorgeous aesthetics to the plain end of your graphics prowess and an opportunity to bolt another fan into your case.

We’re pretty bias because we think that our graphics test rig is already gorgeous, but the addition of the MSI SLI Bridge Kit was the missing piece of the puzzle that we didn’t realise was lacking. When you have four graphics cards it’s easy to overlook the minor details as you’re so slack-jawed at the raw polygon horsepower stuffed into the case.

However, what was once a simple black bit of PCB hanging off to the side is now a gorgeous SLI Bridge which beautifully echoes the design of the GTX Gaming graphics cards and X99 Carbon motherboard. If black and red is your thing, and particularly if you love the products from MicroStar International then you cannot help but be blown away at how much of an improvement such a small change can bring.

In a small way we actually dislike the fan covering up our graphics cards. It now goes gorgeous bridge, fan, cables. Still, the SLI bridge part is such an improvement we’re splitting hairs. Nevertheless the pics below are how we think it looks best!
