Overkill3D – PowerColor R9 295X2 Crossfire

Introduction

Roll up roll up. Yes it’s that time of year again when we dispense with such simple considerations as affordability, efficiency or even sense. It’s Overkill3D time, which means that if you’re a recent lottery winner, a descendant of Rockefeller or perhaps a Prince killing time on their favourite website, this is exactly the test for you.

We recently looked at the PowerColor R9 295X2, a graphics card which comes equipped with two of the top-end Radeon GPUs, the Hawaii XT’s, all kept just about cool by an All-In-One (AIO) watercooling solution. The numbers we attained were incredible.

Still, if loads is good then insane amounts is even better. So let’s grab another R9 295X2 and test out some Quadfire gaming goodness. There is a thread there. 4K resolution. 4 GPU test setup. We’re too good to you.

What’s that you say? How much power does this thing draw at 4K resolution? What a fortunate question you’ve asked there. Needless to say such a monster arrangement when coupled to the incredible 4K resolution certainly isn’t the kind of thing to be attempted lightly. But this is Overkill3D, nothing about it is small and 1321W being pulled from the wall is the higest we have seen here to date. The power draw actually goes up by nearly 100w switching from 1440p to 4K resolution!
