Palit RTX 5080 GameRock OC Review
Introduction and Technical Specifications
Introduction
Yesterday we reviewed the Zotac RTX 5080 Solid, and it wowed us. It’s a great example of why you should stop putting all your money into the pockets of ASUS, Gigabyte or MSI without considering other options. The Palit range of cards, and their GameRock line in particular, is the standard bearer for this concept.
If you know anything about their GameRock cards it’s probably how glitzy they are. We’d never pretend they were for everyone when it comes to aesthetics. Many people couldn’t look past this though. This meant that they missed out on a card which absolutely rocked in the performance stakes. It’s almost the opposite of judging a book by its cover. Most assumed that anything with that much ostentatiousness is probably covering up a shortcoming elsewhere. Fur coat and no knickers, as the saying goes.
Maybe Palit felt that in the sales figures. Certainly the newest version of the GameRock, the Palit RTX 5080 GameRock OC, is a much calmer affair. Not entirely without glitz, as you can see above, but perhaps the glitz isn’t the dominating factor. Shouty, but subtler shouting than the ones that have come before.
What you can’t escape is the price. £1099. For a non-reference, overclocked card that’s a very low price, just a ton more than the cards we saw yesterday. It’s also significantly more affordable than the ASUS card we’re also looking at today. Does the GameRock still have the performance of the previous generations or has that quieter aesthetic led to quieter performance numbers? Let’s find out.
