Palit RTX 5090 GameRock Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
There is no doubt that we’ve always been fans of Palit’s GameRock range. They very much trod their own path. As many manufacturers had subtle, or no, RGB lighting, Palit went all in. Additionally their graphics cards have always been competitively priced. With all the performance of any other card you care to name, glitzier looks, and a relatively low entry price, there is much to recommend. Heck even their ThunderMaster software is lightweight and easy to use.
Today’s RTX 5090 GameRock is no exception in the performance and cost effective stakes. We know that most cards these days have similar levels of performance. Whilst we wouldn’t claim that the GameRock is the fastest – the Astral LC holds that title – amongst the air-cooled cards it’s often playing the starring role and never at the foot of our graphs. If all you want is high performance, cool and quiet operation and a price that isn’t charging extra just for the name on the card, it’s a home run.
New Cooler
We do have to mention the design changes though. We know for many of you this new, understated, cooler will be the tipping point that makes you investigate Palit closer. There is no denying the older GameRock design didn’t exactly hide it’s light under a bushel. If you’re in that category you can skip straight to our last paragraph. If, however, you’re a fan of the old Kaleidoscopic cooler that Palit used to use, or have extremely exacting colour requirements, we need to give a slight warning.
Because of the lenticular, almost prismatic, nature of the new GameRock cooler you have to accept that you might not always get the colour you desire. If you’re the type of person who enjoys RGB gradients, or even just leaves things on unicorn spit mode, then you won’t mind. If you absolutely have to have a very specific shade to match the rest of your rig, this isn’t the cooler for you. Which is disappointing, especially as the previous design had no such issues. It’s a small issue given how you’ll be looking at the monitor not your case, but at this price we want everything spot on. Particularly given how important aesthetics are in these IG days.
Final Thoughts
That is, however, the only fly in the ointment. The Palit RTX 5090 GameRock is everything you would expect from this flagship card. Blisteringly fast in every scenario, slimmer than some other designs, and as affordable as a RTX 5090 can realistically be, the Palit RTX 5090 GameRock wins our OC3D Performance Award.
