Powercolor RX 9070 XT Hellhound Review

Up Close

Once upon a time all boxes had something bristling with testosterone on the front. Jet planes. Knights in armour. Ninjas. That tendency has ceased for the vast majority, which lends the Hellhound a bit of unique flavour. It’s also simple enough that modern creative types could integrate the logo into their build.

We’ve got the Spectral White version on hand today. There is no denying it lives up to the white part of that billing. Before we get too far down the road of extolling that virtue, the main cooling is provided by three fans on the front. 9 blades on all three, with the outer two being larger than the central one. Around the back there is a massive airflow cutout, as well as the Hellhound logo itself.

When you look at it overall, trying hard not to focus on the details, the thing that strikes you is how white it is. It looks whiter than most. Why?

Of course the moment you take a closer look, or focus harder, it becomes obvious. White PCB is an expense that PowerColor needs applauding for straight away. It’s a commitment to the colour scheme. White plastics too. Oh and we can see white cables, white heatpipes, white heatsink. None of this is cheap, not all of it is necessary. It is, however, something that speaks loudly of the attention to detail PowerColor have put into the Hellhound.

There are options for both OC or Silent BIOS, and next to that an LED toggle. We love the ability to turn off lighting without needing to resort to software.

The power for the RX 9070 XT Hellhound is provided by two 8pin PCIe connectors. Perfect if you’ve got an older power supply, or just like the consistency the 8pin design has. It certainly hasn’t got the ‘cold hand clutching my bowel’ fear that comes from the 12 pin design.

Lastly around the back we have the standard selection of 1 HDMI and 3 DisplayPort options. Kudos too to PowerColor for coating the backplate white too. Little things.
