Rise of the Tomb Raider PC performance retested with new AMD drivers

GTX 980 Ti VS R9 Fury X – 4K Performance Retested

 

At 4K we can see that the R9 Fury X has a huge increase in performance when at the highest settings, with a smaller increase in performance at all other settings when compared to AMD’s older driver. 

Now AMD has the highest average framerate at all settings, making AMD the clear GPU of choice for those who want to play Rise of the Tomb Raider at 4K, especially given their higher minimum framerates at the lower settings.   

It is a real shame that we do not have a second R9 Fury X GPU to test, as at 4K this game is still mega demanding, so while this driver does deliver a performance increase it is nowhere near enough to make this game play at a steady 60FPS at 4K. You will either need multiple GPUs or a GPU from the future in order to play this game at 4K 60FPS, so let’s hope the next generation of GPUs are impressive.
