Total War: Warhammer PC Performance Review

1440p Testing with AMD R9 Fury X and Nvidia GTX 980Ti

At 1440p we can see a similar story to our 1080p results, with Nvidia’s GTX 980Ti outperforming the AMD R9 Fury X, but becoming a lot more comparable when the graphics are put up to Ultra.

Again we see the GPU utilization go below 99% on both GPUs, suggesting that at 1440pGPU performance is being limited by a bottleneck within the game. This performance is much better than what we have seen in other Total War Games on release, but the game is not what we would call perfect.

What must be remembered is that our testing scenario is a worst case scenario, with the game performing better than this a lot of the time, especially on the campaign map.

DirectX 12

Below is the results that we have received when using an early build of the game’s DirectX 12 benchmark, which as I have said on the previous page is based on a much less demanding map. This means that our DirectX 11 results are not directly comparable, so do not expect 15 or 25 FPS gains from the upcoming API update.
