Coolermaster Masterset MS120 Review

The packaging for the Masterset looks exactly the same as the other Masterx products we’ve reviewed from Coolermaster. Initial impressions were slightly let down by a couple of the keys not being loose in the box, but once they were reinstalled they never flopped around again. A tiny quality control issue, but very easy to solve and didn’t present any long term issues.

  
 

With everything back in place the MS120 looks very nice as a “no space wasted” keyboard. Rather than enlarge either the packaging or the keyboard itself with extraneous media keys all of the functions are a combination of the Fn key and the F-keys themselves. You can adjust the lighting mode, the colours, brightness.. all the things you want to do to make the MS120 your own.

  
  

The keyboard is a nicely angled design which makes for a comfortable typing experience. We’d recommend investing in a wrist rest, as we do with all keyboards, but understand why the MS120 doesn’t have one by default at this price point.

  

The mouse is equally simple with a right handed design having a pinkie rest for those of you who like a claw style mouse, just sadly lacking any rubber grips on the left hand side for those who prefer a palm style. We were very much hoping for a little textured rubber, if only to increase the audience for the MS120 given its positioning as a … we hesitate to say entry or starter, but you know what we mean. A first step on the Coolermaster ladder.

The scroll wheel, logo surround and base light up, perfect for showing off your personal colour preference. We’re sure this is the same chassis as the Mastermouse MM520 we’ve just reviewed.
