Up Close

By now you should all be familiar with the Corsair packaging, and that searing yellow never stops making us feel happy as yellow always does. Clear product imagery, clear specifications on the back, easy to spot on a shop shelf. It’s all good.

Opening the box was nothing but confusing, with the internals the opposite way to that we’re used to. Normally the spacebar faces you and the cable is at the hinge end of the packaging. The K60 is the other way around to every other keyboard we’ve ever reviewed. Not a problem because it’s out of the box within a couple of seconds anyway, but it made us chuckle so we’re including it here. In the packet you get the usual clear Corsair quick start guide, warranty and disposal instructions.

As a more affordable entry into the Corsair keyboard range a lot of the familiar elements aren’t to be found on the K60 RGB Pro. We have no dedicated macro keys, no volume wheel, light bars and the like. Given the price point of the K60 these aren’t negatives, just something to be aware of. It’s very much a standard 105 key keyboard.

The underside is simplicity itself with just a couple of feet and grip pads. There are holes to install a wrist rest although none is provided. Similarly with the cable rear mounted and non removable there aren’t any cable routing channels.

Here are the new Cherry Viola switches. With a 45nm actuation pressure and 2mm actuation distance, they are very similar to the Cherry MX Reds that have proved so popular. Particularly worth noting is the additional room to help the RGB lighting do it’s thing, and that the switch has the industry standard cross style key cap stalk, letting you use any third party key caps you can find. If you check just next to the F1 key you can see how low profile the Corsair caps are, helping the glow that has been visible at the top of this review.

Without a USB pass through the cable is a standard non-braided affair. We do still like the surround of the USB plug though which just helps lend an air of quality to things, as you’d expect from the brand.

The K60 branding is part of Corsair’s new designs, utilising a very modern font in a tiny point.
