Cougar Attack X3 RGB Speed Review

All Cougar products have a certain style to their packaging and the Attack X3 is no exception, combining an attractive font choice with their company orange and a clear product image.

  

Here is the Attack X3 RGB in all its glory, with a 1.8m braided cable for both the keyboard and the pass-through port, although only the keyboard one is required. The chassis is barely bigger than the space necessary to hold the keys which is useful if you want the benefits of a full-size keyboard but without taking up masses of space on your desk.

  

On the underside we have two small feet which help tilt the keyboard towards you in a more ergonic way. With no cable routing options there is little else to see here so let’s move on.

 

Beneath the nicely fonted key caps we find the Cherry MX Speed keys which form the heart of the Attack X3 in its review configuration. A significantly shorter actuation distance than even the Red switches we all love, the Speed keys are faster than most laptop styles.

  

On the right hand edge we have the ability to change the N-Key rollover function between 8 key and N-Key. To be honest we’ve no idea at all why you would want anything less than infinite keys, as losing letters – hold both shift keys and type the alphabet on your current keyboard – is a pain in the posterior.

  

As we often find, the media keys are on the F-Keys. It’s always a good way to test out the flexibility of your fingers to do it one handed.

  

Lastly the included wrist rest is a bit of a weird one. The left hand section is raised for FPS fun and games, and can be removed if you don’t want it. Which would be okay but without it it’s not really a wrist rest, and most of us type more than we play FPS games.
