MSI MEG Maestro 900R PC Case Review
Meet the MSI MEG Maestro 900R
MSI has a new flagship PC case, and it is massive
After years of waiting, MSI has officially released its MEG Maestro 900R PC case. We’ve been looking forward to this launch since MSI first unveiled its Maestro 900 PZ prototype at CES 2025. We gave that prototype a “Best of CES 2025” award. That’s how much we wanted to see that PC case become a reality.
Since its first unveiling, the MSI Maestro 900 PZ has evolved into the MEG Maestro 900R. This evolution made the case more compact, while maintaining the same overall aesthetic. MEG-series golden elements, large tempered glass panels, and large metal top and bottom elements that frame the enclosure.
A Flagship PC case for full MSI MEG systems
The MSI MEG Maestro 900R is a flagship case for top-tier MSI hardware. At $699 US (£799.99 in the UK), this PC case is incredibly expensive. This PC case expects nothing less than top-of-the-line PC hardware, something that’s worthy of being showcased in such an expensive MSI PC case.
With precision-machined metal elements, custom components, and a panoramic tempered-glass exterior, this case is stunning. A well-made system inside this case would undoubtedly be a showpiece. That said, we don’t like everything about the 900R. While it looks good at a distance, building a PC inside this chassis is a challenge. This case isn’t perfection incarnate, but it can be the home of a fantastic-looking system.
Removable Motherboard Tray
One useful aspect of the Maestro 900R is that you can remove its motherboard tray and use it as an external test bench. This makes motherboard installation easier and lets users test components before installing them in such a huge and unusual PC case.
Unlike most PC cases, the 900R places its motherboard in its center. This means all externally attached cables on other cases must be attached internally. Users will need to route their display cables, I/O cables, and everything else that attaches to the rear of your motherboard. This makes cable management challenging. This is especially true for users of multi-monitor setups.
While the removable motherboard tray can be used as a test bench, it’s not a good one. This motherboard tray/test bench is made to be as small as possible, which makes things rather cramped. Honestly, for simple testing, you may be better off testing parts using traditional methods (just use the motherboard box). After all, this motherboard tray doesn’t give much space for PSU airflow when lying flat on a desk, and has no mounting options for AIO liquid coolers.
The fact that this part is removable makes motherboard installation much simpler. It also makes some aspects of cable management a little easier. That said, many cables can only be routed when this is inside the Maestro 900R, and those cables will be a pain to route.
MSI MEG Maestro 900R PC Build
Since this is a flagship-level showpiece PC case, we built the best system we could inside it. That means an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU, MSI’s MEG X870E GODLIKE X Edition motherboard, and an MSI SURPIM RTX 5090 graphics card. Anything less would have felt wrong with this system. Furthermore, putting non-MSI hardware in this PC case feels downright sacrilegious.
Below are the basic specifications of the system we have built inside the MEG Maestro 900R. To maintain a bottom-to-top airflow pattern, we have avoided installing extra 120mm fans on the sides of the Maestro 900R.
