Roccat Kone Pure Ultra
The packaging for the Kone Pure Ultra is almost as minimalist as the design ethos behind the mouse itself. Whilst we might miss the ice-blue Roccat logo, we appreciate the use of a stiff cardboard insert that balances out the thin cardboard box. It keeps down shipping weight without compromising the robustness.
Within the box we have a quick start guide – plug in, download software, play – and we also find the Kone Pure Ultra itself following the current trend of wrapping the cable around the box, rather than bundling it up in a mobius replication.
The top side is probably the only place where you can find a concession to modern mores, with two buttons behind the textured scroll wheel and the Roccat logo awaiting your choice of RGB colour. It’s very smooth.
On the underside we have two huge anti-friction pads further enhancing the responsiveness of the Kone Pure Ultra, as if the light weight wasn’t enough. The Owl Eye sensor is mounted centrally and there is, as you would expect from something marketed as the Pure, nothing to distract from the business of getting your pointer where you want it.
The right hand side of the Kone Pure Ultra shows the ascetic nature of the design, with nothing at all adding unneccessary weight. Not even the tiniest texture. It’s like holding a pebble that has undergone many centuries or erosion until it’s smoother than a baby’s bottom.
The left side of the Kone Pure Ultra is just as smooth as the right, although the thumb depression ensures that everything remains under control, especially with the light weight. The back/forward buttons are crisp and responsive and fall readily under your thumb.
