be quiet! Pure Power 12 1000W PSU Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
There is an element to affordability that is always a balancing act. We all know that spending more money doesn’t always bring you more performance or reliability. It also is no guarantee of quality either. This means that a lot of people just go for “Random Chinese Brand #17” because they’ll all be basically the same. Heck they probably are made in the same factory. In these modern times it’s easy to believe that there aren’t any genuine bargains to be had. That profit-squeezing, shareholder-focused, late-stage capitalism has meant nothing is worth more than you paid.
The be quiet Pure Power 12 1000W power supply doesn’t give a fig for your preconceptions. It’s legitimately a bargain. This non-modular version has a street price of £119.99, and the modular version is just £129.99. As you could see it was more than good enough in our testing to make us wonder exactly what other 1KW power supplies are doing. It’s as efficient and stable as ones costing twice the price. Additionally be quiet! products live up to their name in use. The fan is large, spins slowly, and was quiet even when we were thrashing the pants off it in testing.
All These Cables
About the only thing we find weird is the lack of modularity. It’s 2024 not 2004. Maybe if you’re a massive company building computers to power whole office blocks, this all-in-one way of working eliminates losing any cables. Or perhaps if you’re entirely new to building a system yourself, then having all the cables pre-installed at least removes some “have I plugged it in right?” worry. Otherwise it just means you’ve got a huge bundle of cables you need to hide away. Hopefully you’ve got a large case. Or you just don’t give a fig for how your system looks.
Given that the modular Pure Power 12M model is merely £10 more expensive than this vanilla Pure Power 12 we’d go with that. It’s still a bargain. However, we’ve been sent, and reviewed, the standard non-modular one. We don’t know if the 12M is as efficient, although we can see no reason why not. But we don’t know for a fact. We do know that the be quiet! Pure Power 12 1000W power supply gives results way beyond what you would expect from it’s meagre price tag, and that’s more than enough to easily win it our OC3D Value For Money Award (but pay the extra £10 for the modular version)
