Corsair RM1000x ATX 3.1 PSU Review

Conclusion

Conclusion – Is the new RM1000x from Corsair a good PSU?

As a PSU nerd, Corsair’s recent actions have excited me. Their adoption of Cybenetics PSU certifications shows a commitment to quality. Corsair is the first PSU brand that has publically abandoned the old 80+ standard and pushed for something better. Furthermore, they created some of the first PSUs to deliver an A noise rating from Cybenetics. In fact, the 750W model of this PSU achieves an A+ rating!

The new Corsair RM1000x could have been the same old power supply with minimal upgrades to make it ATX 3.1 compliant and PCIe 5.1 ready. We have that and more with this PSU. We have a new look, higher efficiency, and lower noise levels. Additionally, we also have a “fan override knob”, which allows users to increase their PSU/case airflow if they wish. While testing this PSU, this override was the only way we could get noticeable fan noise from it. For this reason, we will likely call this the “volume knob” when we next get chatting to Corsair representatives.

Platinum-level efficiency from a gold-rated PSU?

The RM1000x delivered the efficiency levels expected from an 80+ Platinum power supply. As such, we consider this PSU to be performing above its marketed efficiency class. Corsair didn’t do the bare minimum required to achieve a gold rating; they went beyond it.

PSUs may be one of the least exciting parts of a PC, but they are vital. They may not be able to deliver you higher framerates, but they deliver the stable power that your system needs to thrive. We are impressed with what Corsair has delivered with their new RMx series units. For its strong efficiency, we give it an OC3D Performance Award, and for its noise levels, we give it an OC3D Silence Award. Corsair, whatever’s going on with your PSU team, keep it up!
