Corsair SF1000L SFX-L ATX 3.0 PSU Review

Corsair SF1000L ATX 3.0 PSU Review

Corsair delivers high wattages and compact power with their new SF1000L power supply

Not everyone has a huge amount of desk space, and even if we do, not all of us want a huge PC towering beside us. One of the joys of PC building is that you can build the system that you want, and that means that you can create powerful gaming or workstation PCs within small form factor enclosures.

With their new SF-L series of power supplies, Corsair are delivering huge amounts of power to compact PC builders. Today, Corsair has launched their SF1000L and SF850L power supplies, and we have been sent an SF1000L for testing. This 80+ Gold rated power supply is ATX 3.0 compatible, features an 12VHPWR (PCIe 5.0) power connector, and promises users low noise levels with its 120mm cooling fan.

ATX 3.0 is the latest PSU power standard, and it is designed to handle high transient power spikes to ensure that this PSU can handle even the most power hungry of components.

Warranty Details and Power Cables

Unlike many of Corsair’s other 80+ Gold rated PSUs, their SF1000L power supply will not be shipping with a 10-year warranty. The SF1000L will ship with a seven year warranty, and while this warranty is a lengthy one, it is shorter than many of Corsair’s older units. This isn’t a major negative for Corsair’s newest power supply, but it is something that we feel is worth taking note of.

Like some of Corsair’s other more recent units, their SF1000L uses the company’s Type-5 PSU cables. If you want to purchase custom pre-braided cables for this power supply, you will need to make sure that you purchase Corsair Type-5 compatible cables.

Small form factor – Big Power

The main draw of SFX power supplies is their compact form factor, a trait that makes these power supplies ideal for mini PCs. Corsair’s SF1000L is an SFX-L power supply, meaning that the PSU is longer than a standard SFX power supply, allowing Corsair to fit a larger fan to the unit, and increase the unit’s peak wattage to 1000W.

Corsair’s new SF-L series of power supplies will launch with 850W and 1000W capacities, with both models being ATX 3.0 certified. Both units also ship with a 12VHPWR (PCIe 5.0) power cable, making these PSUs compatible with Nvidia’s RTX 40 series GPUs.

Out of the box, Corsair’s SF1000L and SF850L PSUs utilise the company’s Type-5 PSU cables, and ship with the following cables bundles with the unit. This includes a 12+4-pin PCIe cable, also known as 12VHPWR or PCIe 5.0 power cables. These PSUs also existing older PSU cable standards like PATA, also known as Molex.
