1080p Performance – Benchmark Results

Forza Horizon 4 appears to be exceptionally easy to run at 1080p unless you are using graphics cards like the GTX 960 or R9 380, where performance seems to fall off a cliff when compared to each graphics card’s next-generation counterparts.

In this case, it appears as if Forza Horizon 4 is a bit of a VRAM hog, making the game challenging to run on graphics cards with 2GB of VRAM, making it necessary to drastically reduce the game’s graphical quality to make the game operable. To achieve a constant 30+ FPS in the game’s built-in benchmark we needed to lower the game’s graphical quality settings to Low and Medium on the GTX 960 and R9 380 respectively. Anyone with 4GB of VRAM or more shouldn’t have many issues running Forza Horizon 4, assuming that your GPU has the horsepower to back it up.

We can also see here that Forza Horizon loves AMD’s RX Vega graphics cards, with our RX Vega 56 zooming past Nvidia’s GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 Founders Edition models. Strangely, the same effect isn’t shown with AMD’s RX 580, making it probably that Vega’s architectural enhancements over Polaris caused this enormous performance boost.
