Godfall PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

CPU Performance – Core Scaling – Does next-gen need more cores?

While CPU core counts didn’t have a huge impact on Godfall’s average framerates, it is clear that systems with fewer CPU cores suffered from larger framerate dips and more noticeable stuttering on PC.

With four active CPU cores without SMT, our 1st percentile framerates dipped to 51.4 FPS. Enabling SMT raised these 1st percentile framerates to 66.4 FPS (a 29.6% increase), and moving to six cores with SMT increased our 1st percentile framerate to 78.2 FPS (a further 17.77% increase).

Hex-core processors are today’s quad-core processors. While quad-core CPUs were more than enough for gaming a few years ago, they are quickly becoming a limiting factor on modern gaming systems. With all next-generation consoles using 8-core Zen 2 CPUs, we can expect new PC games to utilise more cores and threads than ever.
