Middle Earth: Shadow of War PC Performance Review

1080p Benchmarks

When benchmarking Middle Earth: Shadow of War we decided to use the game’s Very High graphical preset, which offers a decent balance between in-game performance and graphical quality while also avoiding any issues with the game’s Ultra Textures on lower-end GPUs.

Starting off with some of the lower-end GPUs in our test lineup, the R9 380 Strix and the GTX 960 Strix, we can see that neither GPU is capable of playing this game at a steady 30 FPS at these settings. Those that want a higher/more stable framerate will need to lower the game’s graphical quality settings or resolution scale, though at medium presets the game will sit mostly between 45-60 FPS with either of these GPUs.

At Very High settings the only two GPUs to maintain a solid 60FPS are the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080, with AMD’s R9 Fury X struggling at this resolution to surpass even Nvidia’s GTX 1060. Moving down to the game’s high preset will see almost all of these GPUs maintain a solid 60FPS at 1080p (aside from the R9 380 and GTX 960 mentioned above).
