Prey PC Performance Review

VRAM Usage

Prey uses less than 4GB of VRAM in all cases except for 4K Very High settings, which means that most modern GPUs should not suffer from any real issues when running this game.

When this game starts using more VRAM than is available on your GPU’s frame buffer, it will automatically downgrade textures to compensate, which will have a huge effect on graphical quality depending on how much VRAM the game is trying to save. This will present issues for those who use GPUs ith 2GB frame buffers, though this can be rectified by using medium or low textures.

Given how often textures visibly draw-in in Prey, it is a shame that there is not a setting that could effectively draw higher resolution textures at larger distances, especially for those with large banks of VRAM on their GPUs.
