Red Dead Redemption PC Performance Review

PC Performance – 1080p, 1440p, 4K, and 8K!

Is your PC ready for Red Dead Redemption? Yes!

The first thing to note is that Red Dead Redemption’s framerates are limited to a maximum of 144 FPS on PC. If you want the game to run faster, you will need to mod it. However, we will note that the game is CPU-limited, even on our i9-13900K CPU, preventing us from locking this 2010-era game at 144Hz.

Red Dead Redemption appears to only use two CPU cores, which is typical for games of this era. This means that this game isn’t taking full advantage of modern processors and is more software-limited than hardware-limited. Since this is a simple PC remaster, we shouldn’t expect a multi-core patch to ever be released for this game. Regardless, stable 100+ FPS framerates are still better than any console version of this game.

For today’s high-end GPUs, high framerate 4K gameplay is pretty easy to achieve in Red Dead Redemption. The game only proves challenging to run on high-end GPUs when we crank the game up to 8K. That said, using DLSS or FSR upscaling at 8K would allow our RX 7900 XT and RTX 4070 Ti to achieve 60+ FPS framerates at 8K.

Even low-end GPUs run Red Dead Redemption on PC with ease

Moving onto lower-end GPUs, we can see that AMD’s RX 6600 and Nvidia’s RTX 2060 have no problems running this game at over 60 FPS at 1080p and 1440p. When we crank this game up to 4K, we can see that we will need to use DLSS or FSR to enable higher framerates. Regardless, these are solid framerates for these low-end GPUs. If you have a modern gaming system, you will be able to run this game at high framerates with ease.
