STALKER 2 PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

FSR 3 Upscaling

FSR 3 Testing

When testing STALKER 2’s PC version, we used a cutscene as our test sequence. This enabled increased test-on-test consistency and removed a lot of human error from the testing process. That said, it had an unintended consequence: cutscenes don’t use Frame Generation. As soon as an in-engine cutscene starts, DLSS and FSR Frame Generation are disabled. With this in mind, we have used a separate test sequence to showcase the impact on AMD FSR Frame Generation below.

FSR 3, like DLSS, adds an extra level of scalability to STALKER 2. Without it, almost no PC hardware would be able to deliver 60 FPS framerates at 4K. That said, I will note here that STALKER 2’s TSR (Temporal Super Resolution) option tends to provide higher levels of image quality to FSR and deliver similar levels of performance. As such, most AMD users should probably use TSR instead of FSR. Clearly, Epic Game’s Unreal Engine upscaling solution can deliver better results than AMD’s FSR tech.

Below, we can see that FSR 3 Frame Generation can provide users with a HUGE framerate boost. Note that FSR 3 delivers a larger framerate boost than DLSS Frame Generation. This makes FSR 3 a better options if pure framerate matters most to you.
