Low temperatures are the cornerstone of smooth, consistent transfer rates. You can buy drives either bare or with a heatsink. Most modern motherboards are designed in such a way a pre-installed heatsink might be problematic. At least this graph shows if you need to pay close attention to airflow across the PCIE5 heatsinks section your motherboard. Unsurprisingly as the Renegade 8TB is so much larger than the previous model we reviewed, it’s also a lot warmer.
