Temperature Testing

Low temperatures are the cornerstone of smooth, consistent transfer rates. If you’ve been following our Gen 5 reviews you’ll know that a custom heatsink is a must. Most of the drives we’ve reviewed also require some active cooling in the form of a fan to stop them being thermally limited. The Rocket 5 has no such needs. Even the plain motherboard heatsink is enough. It’s by far the coolest Gen 5 drive we’ve tested. This temperature was also obtained by deliberately trying to overheat it. In normal use it was well below 60°C. It’s a beast.
