The PCSpecialist Fusion FE II is all you would expect to see when you cast your eye across the parts list.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is one of the biggest selling processors on the planet and with good reason. Over 5GHz of speed with 8C/16T available is already tasty. Add the famous AMD 3D technology that boost gaming performance, and it sells like hot cakes. Back that up with 64GB of fast RAM, and it has plenty of room to breathe. Utilise the 14 GB/s available on a Gen5 M.2 and you’re not left twiddling your thumbs for anything to happen. It’s just fast and responsive. Well, as responsive as anything on a post 23H2 version of Windows 11 will be. Hopefully Microsoft will soon erase the latency in every action they introduced in 24H2.
Like a Emma Thompson turning up at your local Am-Dram, the star of the show is obvious. The RTX 5090 remains hilariously capable. If you’ve ever experienced something like a RTX 4090 then the RTX 5080 is very similar. The RTX 5090 though is like nothing else. We don’t care what you bring to the party, this thing will smoke it. It pays no heed to the game either. What’s that? You’ve got an open world game streaming massive, neon soaked textures on a rainy night with ray-traced reflections at 4K? Here’s 80FPS average. Turn on DLSS or Multi-FrameGen and the numbers go deeply into the triple digits. Even before the tech bros made them more expensive than printer ink, there was a reason they cost what they did. It is, even now, worth it.
Tiny Changes?
There are three minor things we’d change if we could. Or, perhaps, three things to note should you recently have won the lottery. For this money we’re going to nitpick. Firstly the Ryzen 7 9800X3D isn’t the very peak of CPU horsepower. It’s great for gaming, which is why it’s sold in the gazillions, and more than good enough for most people. For nearly five grand, even in these fiscal times, we’d like a 9900X3D. Four extra cores for the same TDP and only £100 more seems a no brainer. Particularly considering how long the Fusion FE II will be good for. On that subject, the ASUS TUF X870-Plus has four M.2 slots. Not a problem in today’s economy, but given how cheap drives were until recently, most of us own two or three, and this comes with one. Again, tiny, but something to be aware of.
Lastly, the system is configured that when the processor gets warm, all the fans are linked. To get more cool air in. It does, however, mean the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, a CPU that gets hot in a hurry, makes the fans spin up at the slightest provocation. Three fans spinning quickly are loud, seven fans spinning quickly are very loud. Luckily you can solve this for free with a little software tweak. Of course if you having headphones on all the time you won’t notice. If you’re rendering in silence, it would soon become a chore to live with. For over four and a half grand, we don’t want anything but pleasure.
Wrap Up
Luckily for 99% of people those three things are no issue. You use the RTX 5090 for any rendering, you stop at four M.2s and you disconnect the intake fans from the CPU sensor. All of which leaves you with a system which is dazzling to look at, and has so much performance we couldn’t help ourselves giggling in delight. PCSpecialist always produce fantastic systems, and the majority of them are built to a tight budget. When freed from those shackles you get something that would genuinely be worth selling a kidney for.
