Nvidia RTX 2080 Display Outputs confirmed – Gigabyte Gaming model pictured

Thanks to Nvidia’s Quadro announcement we already know that their Quadro RTX lineup supports VirtualLink (more info here), a new VR standard that is supported by Valve, Oculus, Microsoft, AMD and Nvidia, all of VR’s major hardware providers. 

With PNY’s recent RTX 2080/2080 Ti XLR8 leaks, we know that Nvidia’s new series will support HDMI 2.0b, not HDMI 2.1.  Right now the full HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification (CTS) hasn’t been released, which means that right now, no products can officially support HDMI 2.1. More information about HDMI 2.1 is available here. In Theory, Nvidia could be meeting the HDMI 2.1 specification and receive full certifications later, though it must be remembered that HDMI 2.1 is less than a year old, making full HDMI 2.1 support unlikely. 

Thanks to Videocardz, we have a first look at Nvidia’s RTX 2080/2080 Ti display output configuration, with the image below coming from a Gigabyte Gaming series graphics card. The design below matches previously leaked Nvidia PCB design, which indicates that this card is based on Nvidia’s reference display output configuration.  

Like most last-generation Nvidia graphics cards, the RTX 20 series will ship with three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs and a single HDMI 2.0b connection. The USB Type-C connection is for VirtualLink, which is designed for use with future VR headsets, providing up to 30W of power, DisplayPort lanes for Visual data transmission and standard USB functionality for other data.
