MSI Power Supply Range Buyers Guide

Introduction and Pricing

MSI PSU Buyers Guide

Introduction

MSI have really been branching out recently. Not merely in the amount of products available, but how easily their range is to follow. Regular readers will also have noticed how easy they are to customise. Today we’re hoping to help you through the seemingly complicated world of power supplies. We say complicated but they are, as today’s buyers guide will hopefully show, actually really easy to follow along.

We’ve got four options to go over. The MAG A650GL is by no means the cheapest model in the MSI power supply range. It is, however, what we would consider the best spot to start. Any lower than this Watts and you’ll be struggling to maintain power efficiency. Don’t forget that power supplies Watt rating is their maximum. It isn’t what they draw all the time, nor should it ever be what they draw. The aim is to have the most headroom possible. Don’t work out that your build needs 550W so you buy a 550W PSU. Bad things will happen.

The two MPG models are Gold efficiency and far more in the power demand sweet spot. The 1000W model in particular is great for those of you with graphics cards around the RTX 4070Ti Super and RX 7900 XT region. Lastly we’ve the flagship of the MSI range, the MEG Ai1300P. With Platinum efficiency, software monitoring, and enough power to run a AMD Ryzen 9 9950X or Intel Core i9-14900KS next to a RTX 4090 or RX 7900 XTX, it’s perfect for the power hungry.

Pricing and Use Case

The four different MSI power supplies we’re showing you through today hit very different segments of the market. We will go through each model in more detail in their respective sections, but we know everyone likes an ‘at a glance’ summary too.

MAG A650GL – £79.99 . Great for refreshing older rigs, or building affordable setups. It’s a perfect entry point into quality hardware.

MPG A850G – £109.99 . The middle child of the big-selling MSI options. Capable of running most things this side of dream builds.

MPG A1000G – £139.99 . Probably the sweet spot. You can put anything short of a RTX 4090 in it and not stress it at all.

MEG Ai1300P – £339.99 . For those of you who won’t settle for anything but the best and love bells and whistles.
