Nintendo officially unveils their Switch 2 console, and its backwards-compatible

Nintendo’s Switch 2 is launching in 2025, and it will support original Switch games

It’s official: the Nintendo Switch 2 is launching in 2025. The next generation of Nintendo gaming is coming, and the company have given us a look at their new console.

With their new console design, Nintendo is offering gamers a larger screen and new/improved joy-con controllers. Instead of sliding rails, Nintendo’s new console uses magnetised connectors for its removable gamepads, making them a lot easier to use. Overall, the Switch 2 also features an elegant, more rounded design.

Like the original Switch, Nintendo’s new console will feature a dock, allowing the system to be used as a handheld or as a TV-connected console. The system uses a different doc design than the original Switch. It is probable that Nintendo’s new console will not support an Original Switch’s dock.

Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Confirmed

Nintendo has confirmed that their Switch 2 console will be able to play “Switch 2 exclusive games, as well as Nintendo Switch games.” The new system will be able to play both digital and physical Switch games. That means that Switch cartridges will be usable on Nintendo’s new console.

Sadly, Nintendo has not revealed their new handheld’s release date or pricing. All we know is that the system will be launching this year.
