MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi Review
Introduction and Technical Specifications
Introduction
We’re fairly sure it wasn’t that long ago that the idea of having a B chipset motherboard was purely for those of you lacking in funds. Not that there is anything wrong with a budget. Just that generally a B chipset was a compromise. In recent times though that’s no longer the case. The B7xx chipsets were excellent and here, in B850 guise, so far we’ve been impressed. If you want a gaming system either via the AMD X3D processors or the Ryzen 7s, this might be the time to jump on board.
Regular visitors to our corner of the internet will know we’ve very much enjoyed the recent Tomahawk motherboards. MSI have seen a place in the market for a model which has a bargain basement price, but also surprisingly consistent performance, and stuffed it full of Tomahawk. With the recent launch of the AMD B850 chipset it is the perfect opportunity to flex their muscles again, and it comes in the form of the Tomahawk Max WiFi.
Oddly there isn’t a regular version of the MSI MAG Tomahawk. In their B850 range you either get the Mortar, a mATX platform, or this Tomahawk Max ATX one. With four M.2 slots, including two full Gen 5 128Gbps ones, alongside WiFi 7 and 5G LAN, the MSI Tomahawk Max certainly promises to continue the excellent showing this arm of MSI has had up to now. As always, there is only one way to find out. We might be in the thick of the post CES launch, but we can’t make those dates appear faster so let’s enjoy this.
