MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
Another day, another MSI Tomahawk motherboard. We seem to have seen lots of them recently. Any new chipset has a Tomahawk variant. MSI are also kind enough to always send one. Something we appreciate. Yes we all like high-end hardware, but I grew up counting the pennies. I enjoy seeing how much you can get for a relatively small outlay.
One thing that very much proves true with the MSI MAG range, and remains so with the Tomahawk Max, is an unwillingness to compromise. With some motherboards you feel they’ve been cut down to force you to buy big. MSI don’t do that. In fact we feel we need to whisper how good the Tomahawks are. We don’t want them noticing. With two Gen5 M.2s, WiFi 7 and oodles of USB ports, you get it all here. We’re not saying we don’t lust after a Godlike. Just you don’t have to own one merely for connectivity reasons.
As you saw throughout our testing the B850 performance is very good. The days when you had to buy the big X chipset are gone. Or, rather, exist for different reasons. You don’t have to splash out for performance, just for aesthetics and extra features. The MAG Tomahawk Max is minimalist in the lighting department. We also know green isn’t for everyone. But if you don’t mind, and just want speed and places to plug things in, it’s more than enough. Most of our lighting comes from fans these days anyway.
The AMD Ryzen 9000 series of processors is very attractive from top to bottom. With the expansion of the X3D range they’re massively popular with gamers too. As we know gaming is expensive. Getting a high performance motherboard for this price is a steal. All of which makes the MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi a worthy winner of our OC3D Gamers Choice award.
