Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti to use 8-pin power connectors

Nvidia’s RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti will reportedly avoid 12V-2×6 power connectors – leaker claims

According to Chinese media (via Videocardz), Nvidia will not be forcing their partners to use 12V-2×6 power connectors with their RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti GPUs. This means that Nvidia’s RTX 5060-class GPUs will be sticking to traditional 8-pin PCIe power connectors.

Overall, this move would be a good one for Nvidia. After all, purchasers of lower-cost graphics cards are unlikely to want to upgrade their PSU alongside it. Using 8-pin power cables for these lower-end RTX GPUs enabled broader PSU compatibility.

With most PSUs having 8-10-year warranties, many PC builders have a good reason not to want a PSU upgrade. A lot of in-warranty power supplies lack 12V-2×6 power connectors. While 8-pin to 12V-2×6 adapters exist, this would be an overkill option for GPUs of this power level. After all, they can be powered by single 8-pin power connectors.

Nvidia has not officially revealed its RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti GPUs. Rumour has it that both GPUs will be releasing in March, one month after Nvidia’s RTX 5070 series GPUs.
