Sony slashes PlayStation VR 2 pricing to £399.99

PlayStation VR 2 pricing will drop in March

Sony has announced that it will slash the price of its PlayStation VR 2 next month. The headset will cost $399.99 in the US, a $150 reduction from its original MSRP of $549.

Sony’s PSVR 2 has been available since February 2023. Currently, the headset is compatible with gaming PCs and PlayStation 5 consoles. Sadly, it has reportedly sold below Sony’s expectations. Last year, Sony reportedly halted production of the headset because it was overstocked. Now, it looks like Sony is encouraging further unit sales with reduced pricing.

Sony’s PSVR 2 headset will soon cost £399.99 in the UK. In Europe, the headset will soon cost €449.99. At the time of writing, we can find PlayStation VR 2 headsets with pricing as low as £429.99 at EE. However, some retailers are still selling the headset at its original £529.99 UK price. Sony’s new pricing will come into effect next month.

While PlayStation 5 has been an enormous success for Sony, PSVR 2 has not met Sony’s expectations. As such, we do not expect to see many more first-party PlayStation games for the headset. Furthermore, we don’t expect many developers to invest heavily in supporting the platform.

Sony is reportedly working with Apple to enable PSVR 2 controller support for Apple’s Vision Pro headset. However, this deal is unlikely to greatly benefit Sony’s PSVR 2 platform or its users.
