Built-in Internet Speed Test planned for Windows 11
A new Internet Speed Test has appeared in Windows 11 Beta builds
A Windows Insider called Phantom of Earth has spotted some changes to Windows 11’s networking menus and taskbar. It appears that Microsoft is planning to integrate an Internet Speed Test into Windows 11, eliminating the need for third-party internet speed tests.
When looking at Windows 11’s networking settings in the Taskbar, users can now see a new button that says “Internet Speed Test”. Currently, this button opens a Bing tab to perform the test. Currently, it is unknown if Microsoft has plans for a fully integrated test or if it plans to continue relying on Bing. At least the Bing tab opens on your default web browser.
This Internet Speed Test isn’t the only new thing in Microsoft’s latest Windows Insiders builds. These new builds of Windows 11 contain several quality-of-life features, making the Start Menu more customisable while paving the way for new handheld devices like the ROG Xbox Ally. New options for controlling Mobile Devices (Mobile Phones) are also available.

While a built-in speed test would be useful, its presence within a Windows 11 development build doesn’t guarantee that this feature will come to all Windows 11 users. Microsoft could abandon the feature, or the feature could change ahead of its planned rollout.
