RTX OFF – Dying Light: The Beast disables ray tracing on PC at launch
Techland temporarily disables Dying Light: The Beast’s ray tracing effects on PC
Dying Light: The Beast is now available on PC, and when I launched the game, I was confused by its lack of ray tracing support. I could have sworn that Nvidia said that this game supported ray-traced ambient occlusion, reflections, global illumination, and shadows. They did, so why are these visual features missing?
Techland has confirmed that they have disabled ray tracing in Dying Light: The Beast “temporarily” to “deliver the highest possible quality and stability at launch”. The studio claims that they are making “last-minute optimisations” to the game’s ray tracing. However, many gamers have claimed that Techland did this to avoid Borderlands 4-style PC performance criticisms.
To deliver the highest possible quality and stability at launch, we’ve decided to temporarily disable ray tracing while we finalize some last-minute optimizations. This is a top priority (P0) for our team, and we’re working to enable it as quickly as possible after release.
– Techland
Techland will re-enable ray tracing at a later date. For now, PC gamers can play the game without these advanced graphical features. While the game looks plenty good without ray tracing, it is disappointing that these features are missing at launch. We plan to create a PC performance review of this game as normal, and may revisit the game once ray tracing is implemented.
