Micron ships 11 Gbps HBM4 memory, greatly exceeding JEDEC standards
Micron samples 2.8 TBps HBM4 memory to customers
During the company’s latest earnings call, Micron confirmed that it has started shipping HBM4 memory to customers. With these modules, Micron claims to have delivered speeds exceeding 2.8 TBps, with per-pin speeds of 11 Gbps.
For context, Nvidia’s RTX 5090 and its 32GB of GDDR7 memory delivers 1.792 TBps of bandwidth over a 512-bit memory bus. A single HBM4 module from Micron can deliver more than 56% more memory performance than an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090.
Micron claims to have delivered “industry-leading bandwidth” with its new HBM memory modules. With 11 Gbps speeds, these modules greatly exceed the speed expectations set by JEDEC. The JEDEC standard for HBM4 sets a standard operating speed of 8 Gbps per pin. Micron has exceeded this speed by 37.5%.

HBM4 memory will power the next generation of AI accelerators. AI workloads can be incredibly memory-limited, and that means that hardware manufacturers are very interested in HBM4 memory technology.
