AMD cuts ethernet latency by almost half with its Solarflare X4 ethernet adapters
AMD’s newest Ethernet tech will likely force upgrades at the world’s top stock exchanges
AMD Solarflare Ethernet solutions are amongst the best available for those who require low-latency networking. AMD claims that its Solarflare tech is inside 9 ot the 10 top global stock exchanges, powering high-frequency trading platforms where every nanosecond matters. Now, with their new Solarflare X4 Ethernet adapters, AMD claims to have lowered its latencies by up to 40%. Furthermore, AMD claims to have delivered “200% improved system performance and higher ingestion of market data” compared to its Solarflare x2 series products.
With AMD’s EPYC 4005 series CPUs, AMD claims 12% lower latencies than their competition. Furthermore, they claim that their new hardware is backwards-compatible with existing infrastructure, making system upgrades easier.
With many of the world’s top stock exchanges already utilising AMD technology, it is likely that these institutions will upgrade to AMD’s new Solarflare X4 hardware. This will enable increased networking speeds at lower latencies, enabling faster, more reliable trading.
Solarflare became part of AMD when the company acquired Xilinx in 2020. Xilinx acquired Solarflare Communications in 2019. These moves gave Solarflare the global reach of AMD and provided AMD with cutting-edge networking capabilities.
