NZXT Performance Fan Series Review

Meet NZXT’s new FX series of Performance Fans

NZXT now has Performance Series fans

NZXT have just unleashed their new Performance series of fans, the company’s most powerful fans to date. With new materials and some clever engineering, NZXT aims to deliver more airflow and higher levels of static pressure. Better still, NZXT have aimed for stronger performance at low RPMs, enabling increased cooling performance at lower noise levels.

What’s new with the NZXT Performance series?

If there is one thing to make clear here, these new fans aren’t just modified F-series Core RGB fans with higher maximum RPM values. These fans are thicker, made from new materials, and feature an optimised fan blade design. While they do also feature higher maximum fan RPM values, that isn’t the only thing that NZXT has changed.

Aesthetically, these fans also differ from their RGB Core series counterparts. Thanks to their new liquid-crystal polymer (LCP) fan blades, these new fans are opaque. Only the frames of NZXT’s new Performance series fans feature RGB lighting. NZXT’s new fan blades now leave a mere 0.5mm gap between fan and frame for its 120mm, 240mm, and 360mm models. For its 140mm and 280mm models, this gap is 0.9mm. These tighter tolerances reduce turbulence and increase airflow.

Note that NZXT’s new performance series fans also feature a custom “hybrid” bearing, mixing the benefits of magnetic levitation and fluid dynamic bearings. Furthermore, they feature a reinforced metal bearing enclosure to deliver increased stability.

Why were all of these changes made? They were made to increase static pressure and airflow, enabling greater performance at low RPMs while also featuring faster maximum RPM values. That means more airflow at lower fan speeds, and much higher levels of maximum fan performance.

Fans and Frames for all configurations

As mentioned earlier, these fans are available in single 120mm and 140mm sizes, or as single-frame 240mm (2x120mm), 280mm (2x140mm), or 360mm (3x120mm) models. These fans are ideal for NZXT’s cases and liquid coolers. Below, we can see how neatly NZXT’s F280X Performance fans fit into the base of NZXT’s H6 Flow PC case.

Specifications – More than just a fan speed increase

NZXT’s new F120X, F240X, and F360X models can all operate at fan speeds of up to 3,100 RPM, whereas their F140X and F280X models can operate at speeds of up to 2,400 RPM. These speeds are much higher than NZXT’s existing RGB Core fans, with 120 mm-based models and 140 mm-based models operating at speeds of up to 2400 RPM and 2000 RPM, respectively.
