Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Ultra 5 250K Plus Review
Introduction and Technical Specifications
Introduction
Intel have had some wobbly times in recent launches. The 12th, 13th and 14th Gen processors seemed to just get hotter and hotter. Faster too, but with diminishing returns. Eventually the ultimate 14th Gen Core i9, the 14900KS, was unusably toasty at full chat. Understandably they returned to the drawing board and drafted up the Intel Core Ultra 200 Series. We liked these far more than most, because we understood what they were trying to do. Sometimes you need to take a step back before you can go forwards again. It might not have sold in droves, and needing some tuning, but the basic idea was sound.
Enter today’s review, the updated Intel Core Ultra Plus processors. Two – with more to come – entrants that Intel have been beavering away upon. It’s a refresh of the existing Arrow Lake processors. An attempt to stem the sales figures the AMD X3D offerings have, whilst also maximising the areas in which Intel are always strong. Such is the improvement over the current Intel Ultra processors that they were tempted to call them the Intel Ultra 300, rather than 200 Plus. A strong statement of intent.
For those who just want the tldr version: 1) The Intel Ultra Plus has custom optimisations to improve gaming and x86 workloads. 2) the number of cores has moved down a segment (this Ultra 7 has the same as the previous Ultra 9, whilst this Ultra 5 matches the previous Ultra 7) without upping the price! 3) Out of the box support for 4R CUDIMM technology. 4) All in one software installation package to ensure easy access to the processors full suite of features.
For everyone else, let’s look through the pictures before covering the details in more depth.

We are aware that we get a kit that isn’t how you’ll receive it from a retailer. Nonetheless it’s impactful enough we wanted to share.
And each processor. Not the most exciting photos in the world. Much like M.2 drives to be honest. But we like to ensure you know we’ve always got the products on hand, and aren’t just some ChatGPT-spawned blog. Remember when the internet was hand-crafted? Good times, good times.
