Valve completes huge farmer bot ban, hitting almost 1 million accounts

Counter-Strike 2 now has a lot fewer farmer bots

Valve has confirmed that it has completed a new bot ban wave in Counter-Strike 2, banning 960,000 farmer bots. This was due to an internal Valve investigation that utilised data from user reports, highlighting the importance of community engagement.

With many Counter-Strike 2 items holding significant real-world value, it makes sense for some people to try to cheat the system. So-called “farming accounts”, join matches and go AKF (away from keyboard), throwing the match. Others use bots to play these matches. Either way, these “farm” accounts negatively impact real Counter-Strike 2 players, which means that it is a good thing that this ban wave has been completed by Valve.

Yesterday we banned 960,000 farming bot accounts.

This was the result of a bunch of investigation that benefited from user reports. Thank you.

To send us reports of bots, email [email protected], subject “Farming Bot Report”.

Cheers

Valve has stressed that its investigation into these bots benefited from user reports and has given thanks to its community for its assistance. The company has also told players to email “[email protected]” with the subject line “Farming Bot Report” to help them with future VAC ban waves.

This new VAC ban wave highlights how important anti-cheat technology is to large online games like Counter -Strike 2. Valve banned almost 1 million accounts this week, and those accounts likely impacted millions of Counter-Strike games. Thanks to this ban, gamers should be much less likely to encounter bots in their games, which is great news for everyone.
