AMD RDNA 5 leak details expected clock speed boost for next-gen Radeon GPUs
A new leak about AMD’s next-generation RDNA 5 graphics cards has revealed the GPU’s clock speed targets. These GPUs are reportedly due to launch sometime in 2027 and use the same architecture that will become the backbone of PlayStation 6 and Xbox “Project Helix”. RDNA 5 will contain the graphical feature set that will define the next generation of consoles.
According to Kepler_L2, internal AMD documents set RDNA 5 clock-speed targets at “3.1-3.4 GHz”. This is notably higher than AMD’s clock speeds for retail RDNA 4 graphics cards. AMD’s official boost clock speed for its RX 9070 XT is 2.97 GHz. This puts AMD’s RDNA 5 clock speed targets 4.3% to 14.4% higher than AMD’s RX 9070 XT. While these clock speed increases aren’t massive, they will boost RDNA 5’s GPU performance over RDNA 4.
AMD’s RDNA 5 performance gains are expected to come primarily from architectural enhancements. RDNA 4 features significant architectural improvements over RDNA 3, with stronger per Compute Unit performance, boosted AI and ray tracing performance, and support for a range of new features. RDNA 5 is expected to deliver similar improvements, offering gamers a feature set that will define the next generation of console and PC games.

AMD and Sony have already unveiled some of RDNA 5’s features through Project Amethyst, with AI, Ray Tracing, and memory compression playing vital roles. “Neural Arrays”, “Radiance Cores”, and “Universal Compression” are all next-generation RDNA 5/PS6 features, acting as pillars for next-generation gaming.
AMD and Microsoft have also unveiled “FSR Diamond“, a successor to “FSR Redstone”. This makes “Neural Rendering”, “next-gen ML-based upscaling”, “ML-based Multi-Frame Generation”, and “Next-gen Ray Regeneration for RT & Path Tracing” key features of Project Helix and RDNA 5. These features should come to the forefront with RDNA 5 and be key features for both PC and console games.
