AM4 Lives! AMD launches its Ryzen 5 5500X3D gaming CPU
AMD launches a new gaming-oriented AM4 CPU for 2025 – Socket AM4 isn’t allowed to die!
AMD has just launched a new budget-oriented X3D series CPU for its AM4 CPU platform called the Ryzen 5 5500X3D. With its June 5th launch date, this new processor arrives well into the lifespan of AMD’s newer AM5 CPU socket, making this new CPU launch an oddity.
Like other Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, the 5500X3D is a Zen 3 CPU, a CPU architecture that is two generations behind today’s Zen 5 CPUs. With AMD officially teasing its first Zen 6 series CPUs, it is strange to see AMD launch a brand new Zen 3 processor.
AMD’s website states that the new X3D series CPU will be available exclusively in the LATAM (Latin American) market. With Base/Boost clock speeds of 3.0 GHz and 4.0 GHz, it is notably slower than AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X3D.
Launch Date 6/5/2025

It is currently unknown how much this new AMD CPU will cost or how it will be sold. We expect it to be available as part of gaming-oriented system builds, acting as a low-cost CPU option for gamers. Regardless of how AMD plans to sell these CPUs, we expect them to be available in vanishingly low quantities.
Essentially, this CPU is a Ryzen 7 5700X3D with fewer cores (six instead of eight) and lower clock speeds. As such, we expect this CPU to be cheap. It has a place in the budget gaming CPU market. That said, Zen 3 is an old CPU architecture by today’s standards, and 4 GHz isn’t that fast anymore.
