AMD reportedly preps low-cost Ryzen 7 9700F CPU

AMD reportedly preps F-series Ryzen 9000 series CPUs without integrated graphics

Alongside fixes for a TPM 2.0 security issue, AMD’s new AGESA 1.2.0.3e update for AM5 motherboards reportedly enables support for Ryzen 9000F-series CPUs. This new CPU range reportedly includes a new Zen 5 8-core CPU, the Ryzen 7 9700F, which is reportedly targeting a price point below $250.

AMD’s Ryzen 9000F CPUs use the same Granite Ridge silicon as their X-series counterparts. However, they use IOD chips that lack integrated graphics. This means that these CPUs need to be used with discrete GPUs. Assuming that no other aspects of these chips are disabled, they should feature 32MB of L3 cache.

Currently, the clock speeds of AMD’s new F-series chips are unknown. They may feature the same clock speeds as their X-series counterparts or feature clock speeds that are a few hundred MHz lower.

AMD’s new Ryzen 9000F series CPUs could bolster AMD’s low-end Ryzen 9000 CPU lineup by offering more competitive pricing. However, it remains to be seen how much these CPUs will cost. It is also unknown how they will compare with their X-series counterparts. Regardless, it is good to see more CPU options for PC builders, especially if they promise strong value for money.

If the frequency of AGESA 1.2.0.3e updates is anything to go by, AMD plans to launch these new F-series CPUs soon.
