AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D CPU listed in the UK – AM4 Lives!

AMD’s Ryzen 5 5500X3D is now available to pre-order in the UK

AMD’s socket AM4 isn’t dead, it’s alive! For the first time, AMD’s Ryzen 5 5500X3D has become available to purchase in the UK. Pre-orders are now open at £179.99 on the retailer PC Tec UK, as spotted by Computerbase.de.

This six-core Zen 3 processor offers AMD AM4 users a solid upgrade option for gamers. This CPU features AMD’s X3D L3 V-Cache technology, which provides 96MB of L3 cache instead of 32MB. This accelerates this chip’s gaming performance by allowing more data to be stored on-chip.

Why buy a Zen 3 CPU in 2026?

AMD’s newest Ryzen CPUs use AMD’s Zen 5 architecture. This architecture is two generations newer than Zen 3. However, Zen 5 CPUs require AMD AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory. With DDR5 memory pricing being inflated by the AI boom, upgrading to AM5 isn’t an attractive prospect. For AM4 users with older processors, moving to a Zen 3 X3D CPU is an attractive option, as it does not require a motherboard or memory upgrade.

If you already own an AM4 motherboard and DDR4 memory, buying a Ryzen 5 5500X3D is an easy way to create a relatively powerful gaming system. While the 5500X3D is far from the best gaming CPU that AMD offers, it is an attractive option for budget-oriented PC builders. That’s especially true within today’s CPU market.

Even now, AMD’s website states that the new X3D series CPU will be available exclusively in the LATAM (Latin American) market. With Base/Boost clock speeds of 3.0 GHz and 4.0 GHz, it is notably slower than AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X3D. This CPU features six Zen 3 CPU cores and twelve threads.

While it is strange for AMD to launch a Zen 3 product in new regions (since Zen 5 is AMD’s current-gen architecture), it is a solid business move in today’s PC market. With AI datacenter builders hoarding the world’s DDR5 memory, the consumer PC industry needs to adapt. That means supporting older, more affordable DDR4 platforms. I wonder if we will see this CPU become available at more UK and European retailers soon?
